Niemi Services is going fossil-free for heating at its Helsinki headquarters – reducing annual CO2 emissions by around 230 tonnes.
Niemi palvelut Oy and Heatly Oy, CapMan Infra’s target company, have agreed to deliver a CO2-free hybrid thermal power plant to the company’s headquarters in Konala, Helsinki. The hybrid thermal power plant will be supplied by Thermal Storage Finland Oy.
The project reinforces Niemi’s solid position as a forerunner in environmental issues in the moving and logistics sector. The hybrid thermal power plant will reduce Niemi’s CO2 emissions by around 230 tonnes per year. Hybrid thermal power will significantly reduce heating costs and fits perfectly into Niemi’s sustainability strategy. According to Kalle Peltola, the company’s CEO, the hybrid thermal power plant is an excellent example of a concrete measure to reduce emissions. “Already, our entire fleet runs on 100% fossil-free fuels, our recycling scheme is sophisticated and our service is also highly valued by our customers. We monitor the overall environmental impact of the services we provide, train our staff and continuously improve our practices to minimise our environmental impact. There is a great need for services that improve cost-efficiency and at the same time reduce environmental impact, as environmental issues are becoming increasingly important to our customers in a highly competitive environment, both because of climate change and regulation. Against this backdrop, it is great that we will be able to switch to 100% clean heating energy at our Niemi headquarters and at our regional terminal as early as next heating season. ” – Kalle says.
Heatly Oy, CapMan Infra’s target company, is a company specialised in the ownership of heating plants: Heatly offers its customers more environmentally friendly heating energy and savings on heating costs through a service model where the heating plant is maintained for the customer for the entire contract period for a monthly fee without any initial investment. A similar type of service contract, which is worry-free and predictable for the customer, is already familiar from geothermal projects and is now also available for hybrid thermal power plants. Sauli Antila, Investment Manager at CapMan Infra, believes in the high demand for hybrid thermal power plants and the suitability of the service model for the current clean heating market. “We at CapMan are already familiar with Niemi Palvelut, and the negotiations on the service solution went smoothly. Thermal Storage Finland’s hybrid thermal power plant is ideally suited to Niemi’s property, and the service model not only provides Niemi with cost savings but also CO2-free heating energy without the need to invest in a heating plant itself. We are looking forward to the start of the autumn heating season and the good results of the hybrid thermal power plant, which will certainly also attract international interest in this solution and its service model.“- Sauli commented.
Thermal Storage Finland manufactures hybrid heat and power plants based on modern heat pump technology and heat from the sun, as well as electricity. The concept has been developed in Finland and has already been used by customers since last autumn with excellent results. The hybrid power plant uses CO2-free electricity and produces 100% carbon neutral heat energy. Janne Ritakoski, the company’s CEO, believes that the hybrid power plant concept is an excellent fit for the service model. “A replicable, maintenance-friendly and remotely monitored solution, it is extremely worry-free and hassle-free for the customer. The same category also includes a service contract, where the maintenance contract ensures the operation of the power plant under all circumstances. We have definitely thought about the whole concept from the customer’s point of view. The power plant is built on our own premises and delivered to the customer ready for installation. We have allocated only a couple of days for the installation of the power plant itself and a couple of weeks for the installation of the solar collectors. During this time, it will not interfere with the customer’s day-to-day business, nor will it cool the building even in the cold season. ” – Janne promises.
